Color away

How might solo travelers reflect on aesthetics from their trips?

This project was for a Directed Research Group (DRG) in the Department of Human Centered Design and Engineering (HCDE) at the University of Washington, Seattle. This DRG was titled “Prototyping Technology Use for Solo and Nomadic Travel” and our goal was to explore design opportunities for solo travelers by reading papers and interview excerpts curated by HCDE PhD Candidate Mania Orand. Through these resources and class discussions, we designed, ColorAway, a photo taking application and an online service that creates real-world adult coloring books from travel photos, bringing life to an otherwise ‘dead’ photo archive via the unified engagement (mental and physical together) people enjoy through the act of coloring.

This work was further developed by Jason Chen and Lucia Choi. If you are interested in learning more about it, here is the paper you can read :)
